Yes. A redirect sends anyone who visits an old or changed URL to the right page instead of getting a 404 error. We set these up whenever a page is renamed, moved, or removed.
When you need a redirect
- You renamed a page (e.g. /services changed to /what-we-do)
- You deleted a page that used to exist and has inbound links or search traffic
- You changed your domain and want the old one to forward to the new one
- You shared a short URL on printed materials that should point to a specific page
- You moved from one platform to another and your old URLs no longer match
Why it matters for SEO
When Google has indexed a page at a specific URL and that URL disappears, the ranking and any links pointing to it are lost. A 301 redirect preserves most of that SEO value by telling Google the page has permanently moved. Skipping redirects during a site migration can cause a noticeable drop in search traffic.
Platform notes
- Custom HTML sites: We add redirects directly in the server or .htaccess configuration.
- WordPress: Redirect plugins or server-level rules depending on your setup. We'll use whichever is cleanest.
- Wix: Redirects are managed in the Wix dashboard under Settings → Redirects. We'll set them up on your behalf.
- Squarespace: URL redirects are in Settings → Advanced → URL Mappings. We'll handle the syntax and setup.
- Webflow: Redirects are in Project Settings → Publishing → 301 Redirects. We'll configure them before any page changes go live.
How to request one
Submit a request with the old URL (or a list of old URLs) and where each one should redirect to. We'll confirm and set them up, usually within 1 to 2 business days.
Tip: If you're planning a platform migration or major restructure, tell us before work starts so we can map your old URLs and set up all redirects as part of the project.
